The Breaking Bread Village was birthed on May 12 in the year 2020, right at the height of a pandemic, while tensions were high, and civility appeared to be a thing of the past. In those divisive moments, the birthing pains began, and TBBV was born. The absolute need for empathetic, transparent, and impactful conversations surrounding vital topics was evident, so the beginning of creating safe spaces for that to happen was born.
First, let me share something with you. I value conversation for many reasons, and one is because of the many times I remember as a child and young adult being told not to share, not to feel, not to speak, or speak the way I was told. I was made to feel like I was to be seen and not heard. It impacted me, so I’ve always advocated for voices to be heard and welcomed into a safe space without judgment. A place where someone feels comfortable being themselves. Another reason is after working in the school system, one-on-one with many students, for many years, as a life coach, I saw firsthand the need to advocate and encourage. The need to create healthy dialogue and spaces was palpable. I specialized in working with children who needed a little extra love, and I found success with them by communicating and having a dialogue that helped them feel heard, which led them to trust me, and that allowed them to be vulnerable so they could be helped, and that all led to them graduating or excelling to the next level. So I’ve seen it work and believe in The Breaking Bread Village method.
Yes, as simple as some feel- conversation is, and I value it deeply; at times, we’ve proven in our current state that it’s not quite as simple as we’d like, unfortunately. With the TBBV method, although the tangible benefits can be hard to see initially, the benefits are there, and many seeds are being planted. For example, two panelists from the first show met for lunch to further the conversation and get to know each other better. These two people have very different views- polar opposites. And in those moments at the live show, they heard something that allowed them to open their minds to continue the learning process. I can’t help but believe that it had something to do with the method and environment created for them to be vulnerable and express themselves. We may not see all the residual effects of our conversations at that moment, but I know an impact took place both times. I came to this conclusion based on the feedback from both the panelists and viewers/guests. The reviews made my heart smile. I honestly had no idea that a lasting impression would be left that way, but I am forever grateful. I wholeheartedly believe in this method. I ask you to believe in it, too, and sow a seed.
How can you help? TBBV is looking for sponsorships and partners for local and cross-country conversations. We are indeed growing at a beautiful pace- and for that, we are grateful- yet we still need some support from our community. We believe in sowing back into our volunteers, helpers, panelists, and venues as they’ve sowed into us by believing in the vision and helping it become the experience and success it is. If you feel led to invest, you can donate here- https://tbbv.org/sow-a-seed or we can set up a time to chat in more detail. Contact us here: village@tbbv.org.
Thank you for taking the time to “hear” and love us. I do not take it lightly and appreciate the support as we grow this vision and share our method with our communities and beyond.
